winter
Most people dread the coming months of winter, but I look forward to the snow and seeing my dad with that goofy hat.
In the UP, winter is an important month. Not only is it important for our economy but it’s vital to have a list of outdoor activities to keep your sanity. I know that the Upper Peninsula has a bad rep for being non-inhibited, cold, nothing to do and full of hicks but there is so much more….. it makes me angry when people talk negatively about it.
I wanted this blog inform those who have never been to the Upper Peninsula that there are many things to do in the winter months and that yes… there is civilization way up there.
Things to do include:
1) snowshoeing at al aqual or anywhere else for that matter 2) skiing and cross country skiing 3) snowboarding 4) ice skating 5) snowmobiling 6) ice fishing 7) take a sauna with a Fin 8) PASTYS!! *they also make veggie pastys for those of you who are vegetarians 9) Congress Pizza *best thin crust pizza ever 10) dancing 11) driving all the way up the Kewinaw Peninsula (lots of Historical buildings, and old mining towns) 12) the national ski jumping tourniment in December. People from all over the word come here to compete 13) hunting 14) renting a cabin 15) window shopping downtown Marquette 16) checking out the local art gallerys 17) sledding 18) taking a tour of the Iron Ore Mines *find out where the parts of your car come from! 19) blueberry beer 20) build a snowman … and much, much more.
Seriously guys… go visit before you judge. The Upper Peninsula is a beautiful and exciting place!!
